Karate Kid

Who doesn’t love this movie? This 1984 classic movie follows Ralph Macchio aka Daniel Larussoa as the teen who moves to California from New Jersey for his senior years. He gets back his self confidence after befriending Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi who coaches him the secret of life and ancient art of Karate.His life turns a new leaf when he meets his newfound love interest, his mentor, Mr. Miyagi, and an eventual karate championship where he kicks the crap out of the town bully.Plus of course, he learned the unforgettable crane kick seeing his mentor.Daniel LaRusso’s travel shows the ceaseless prospects of relocation.
Money Pit:
One of the funniest movies on moving and relocation.Tom Hanks and Shelley long are amusing portraying a couple buying a home. Their search ends with what at first glance seems like an amazing deal- a mansion at a record low price. Once the two move into the home they find that it is literally a money pit that will take a ton of money to repair. One remodeling project turns into another as the house seems to fight against them the whole way. If you have ever bought a fixer-upper, this movie is for you. It shows the ups and downs that relocation can bring into a marriage – money, emotions, and stress. Perhaps no film better exemplifies the stresses of moving to a new home.
Moving:
If you think your moving plans are all over the place then my friend you are sure to find some closure with this movie after you see what the main character goes through. Meet Arlo Pear (Richard Pryor) an engineer from New Jersey who is fired from his job..(yeah sad..!)But then comes the fun part when he lands a job in Idaho. When Arlo tries to move his family to Boise, Idaho he employs the less-than-desirable services of the Hummingbird Moving Company and turns out that the movers he hires are ex-convicts and the person he has drive his car across the country has multiple personalities. And if that isn’t bad enough, their new house is not what they expected. When things couldn’t get any worse,hang on, they do! Arlo loses his new job and the movers never showed up.
He hires unreliable and untrustworthy movers, loses his new job, and everything continues to go downhill.These guys should have compared with Movers & Packers & hired the best of the lot.
Toy Story
Well we’re a bit partial to any film that culminates with a heroic landing into a moving box but Toy Story truly is an incredible film that highlights how difficult a move can be on a family. There’s laughter, tears, and an unforgettable chase scene involving a moving truck, as friends struggle valiantly to reunite.
Funny Farm:
No list concerning movies about moving would be complete without this 1984 film starring Chevy Chase. The comedian plays a sports journalist quits his job, moves to the country, and tries to write a book. Its hilariousness from thereafter when Chase’s character has interactions with the locals and the wildlife around his new home. If you really need a laugh after your move, this film will have you in splits.

Remember this classic television program (and movie remake later on) about a poor mountain family whose patriarch struck oil while hunting? His bullet strikes the ground and wham! crude oil rushes to the surface, instantly turning Jed Clampett into a millionaire. He and his interesting family move to Beverly Hills, creating hullabaloo for everyone that meets them. In 1993 a remake of this classic came to theaters starring the late Jim Varney as Jed. Undoubtedly our favorite moving family:the lovable Clampetts. Jed Clampett scores brownie points for one of the most innovative packing jobs you’ll ever see.
Footloose (1984)–
Feeling a bit of a culture shock after moving to your new home? This fun dance movie will uplift your spirits (Alert :This Classic tale of teenage rebellion and repression features a delightful combination of dance choreography and realistic and touching performances,brace yourself before putting the Play Button!) A city boy moves to a small town where rock music and dancing is forbidden, tries hard to fit in but the streetwise Ren can’t quite believe he’s living in a place where rock music and dancing are illegal (like Really.?). However, there is one small pleasure: Ariel Moore, a troubled but lovely blonde with a jealous boyfriend. Ren and his classmates want to do away with this ordinance, especially since the senior prom is around the corner, but only Ren has the courage to initiate a battle to abolish the outmoded ban and revitalize the spirit of the repressed townspeople. Fast-paced drama is filled with such now-famous hit songs as the title track and “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”.
Raising Arizona –
Hi and Ed’s misbegotten move to the desert leads to some of the most irreverent and unpredictable behavior in cinema. Nevertheless we can’t help but love these two misfits as they do everything they can to get their own little slice of happiness. Still, we advise spending a lot more time thinking through your move.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation –

One of only two Christmas-themed movies released in 1989. Remember physicist Leonard Hofstadter of BBT? Yea..the same cute guy whose gf is Penny! A fairly perfect blend… of cartoon violence and mayhem and the pleasant lightness of a Christmas movie. The storage issues faced by Clark Griswald as he fights to give his family an unforgettable Christmas – wrestling with tangled lights, hiding presents, and this incredible moment that infused all of us with a fear of the attic stairs – garner NLCV a spot on our list.
The Brave Little Toaster
A group of dated appliances :a toaster, a blanket, a lamp, a radio, and a vacuum cleaner journey to the city to find their young 8 year old “master” after being abandoned in their cabin in the woods. A classic, debatably one of the best animated kids movies. It delivers on every level, one of the best Disney movies in a long time. But its gloomy for them when they arrive in the big city they discover they may no longer be useful because of new, modern appliances. Here is the link to the video.
A frivolous fantasy on the surface, but with a dark subtext of abandonment, obsolescence, and loneliness.
