Migration is not uncommon. It has happened in past and will continue in the future as well. The only difference is that the migration laws of the countries were not as strict as they are today. But, whatever it is, if you are determined to move abroad, then you can actually move without much hassle.

After reading this post, I am sure you are going to get the fair idea about the simple tricks that you can opt for to fulfill your dream of relocating to some other country. I am confident; these tips will help you make the right decision for yourself just like they helped me during my relocation to the United States.

How to move abroad on a low budget?

We all deserve to be happy, and if by moving to some other country, you are able to enjoy higher standards of living, then it is always worth it to do some sacrifices and take some extra efforts.

But, remember whatever you do must be done legally. Using unfair or illegal means is not at all recommended as if you are caught; you are not just ruining your own image but also putting the name of your own country down.

You need to apply for the Visa of that particular country and do all the other formalities otherwise you will not be allowed to cross the borders. Also, you need to be financially secure to support yourself in a foreign land with higher cost of living than your own country.

This is why there is a popular belief that moving abroad is only limited to the rich section of the society who can afford all the moving costs. Well, that is definitely true but is partially true because there are some really cheap ways to move abroad as well.

It is mostly about grabbing opportunities at the right moment and learning how to cut off your moving expenses. Well, I have an experience of moving abroad, so I can definitely help you get some ideas regarding how you can make things happen for you on a low budget.

Trust me, there are ways to move abroad on a low budget and I am happy to share it all hereunder.

Grab an onsite opportunity

The best and the cheapest way to move abroad are to secure a job in the country where you want to relocate to. If there are any onsite opportunities going on in your present company, then prepare yourself and secure your position for the available post.

In such a case, the moving costs are usually taken up by the employer. So if you are able to crack this opportunity, you will be able to move abroad free of cost. Of course, you will have to support yourself in the new country after relocation. But if you already have a decent job, then you won’t face any issues.

Now, if your present company is having no such opportunities, then try to create opportunities for yourself. In other words, do some net surfing, apply for jobs in abroad, crack the interviews and then live your dreams.

Carry limited items

If you are the one paying for your own relocation, then make sure you carry only the items that are absolutely necessary for you. There is no point in moving your furniture or other unnecessary heavy and odd shaped items with you. Just take the items that you cannot live without.

Later when you get settled in the new country, buy items as per your needs. But in the beginning, please do not do the mistake of carrying most of your household items with you. Either you keep them in your old home or sell them before you relocate. Selling will help you earn some money as well.

International relocation charges are much higher in comparison to prices required for moving within the country. So, the lesser the items you carry, the better for you.

Use sea freight

One of the cheapest ways to move abroad is definitely by using sea freight over air freight. It is very obvious that air freights are very much faster than the sea freights. Sea freight might take 3-4 weeks for your goods to get transported while taking up air freight may take just 3-4 days. But, obviously, the charges are a matter of concern here for those with monetary restraints. The air freight charges are much higher in comparison to the sea freight charges. So, you need to choose the mode of transportation as per your preference.

If you are moving in a serious hurry then air freight is obviously the best option for you. But, if you want to move abroad on a low budget, and save as much money as you can, then you may seriously consider sea freight.

Compare relocation quotes

If you are looking for the international movers for getting your belongings transferred to another country, then I will always recommend you to take quotes from at least 3-4 international moving companies.

Well, the reason is pretty simple, if you have 3-4 international moving companies in hand; you can compare the rates and bargain well. And, who knows you may be able to crack a really profitable deal from there and save some money on moving you goods.

You can get international moving quotes from leading international movers in India on this platform.

Save money on packing

You may take up the responsibility of the packing of the household items if you want to move abroad on a low budget. And, then when you are buying the packing supplies, you may get hold of the cardboard boxes for free or buy the second hand ones at very low prices.

Same goes with other types of packing supplies as well. However, it is recommended that you do not compromise much with the safety of the items. So, even if you are buying second hand stuffs or collecting the supplies for free, make sure you take the ones that are of good quality.

If you are getting very cheap quality packing materials, it is better to avoid those for the safety of your belongings. Remember they need to survive throughout the relocation process. So unless they are well covered and protected, they may get damaged during the transit.

Check airfare deals

The next in my list of the cheapest ways to move abroad will be to keep an eye on the airfare deals before booking your travel tickets. If your relocation date is flexible, then it is advisable that you wait until there is a special promotion or discount for travel to the country where you are about to move. Trust me, many a times, this can save thousands off a regularly price flight.

I will also suggest you to sign up for alerts and get emailed whenever there is a drop in the prices.

Choose the country wisely

If your employer is transferring you abroad, then money won’t be too much of a concern, as your employer will take up the expenses. But, if yours is a self-initiated move, then while picking destinations, you must choose one that has got good standard of living, but is comparatively more affordable than the other developed or established locations.

Like for example, if you want to enjoy the European feel, then you may go for the cities in Portugal, Hungary etc. See, places like Paris, London, Amsterdam are really expensive but the cities in Hungary, Portugal, etc. are much affordable at the same time, will give you that European charm that you are looking for. In short, you need to find a location that will provide you with a good lifestyle at low prices.

Share your apartment

If you are moving abroad alone, then one of the cheapest ways to move abroad will be to share your apartment with a roommate. Rent is actually the biggest fixed expense you are going to have right from the beginning. But, if you have someone with whom you can share the rent, then that is definitely going to be a huge advantage for you. Also, if you are moving to an unfurnished apartment, then you will have to buy some basic furniture and household items whose expenses can also be shared with your roommate.

So, yes, finding a good roommate will help you reduce the expenses a lot, so try to find one. If you know someone who is in the same location where you are relocating, you can share the apartment with him/her or can take help from him/her in finding a good roommate for you.

Over to you

Proper planning and perfect execution of the plan is one of the best ways to enjoy a successful domestic and international relocation. Since international relocation is much more expensive than the interstate domestic relocation, you need to be well prepared while moving abroad. The good thing is there are cheapest ways to move abroad, and I have already shared a few of them in this post.

If you see my list, you will find that the tips I gave actually are pretty simple. But many a times, when we sit to plan, we often miss out on these simple, but effective hacks of moving abroad cheaply.

So, I believe if you are planning to move abroad sooner or later and have a tight budget then consider the easy steps I suggested you. I am very hopeful that you will be able to save quite a lot while moving to another country.

What are your views on it? Have you ever moved abroad? If yes, then share your suggestions and feedback in the comments, and let us know how you managed to save money while moving to another country.

Until then, enjoy your relocation.
