Do you have the experience?
Before you start your own business, it would be wise to work under a packers and movers company and learn some tricks of the trade (experience). When you work with a relocation company you get to learn lots of things. Right from surveying customers and interacting with them to preparing quotations and various other tips and tricks.
While on job, make sure to work hard and learn most of the thing. Learn the process, know about place where packing materials are available, where to find labor and how to retain them and everything else that could learn.
Once you have the experience, it’s time to start thinking and planning your venture.
Select a city where you want to start your business
City you choose plays a very important role in growth of your company. Mega cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad etc are already too crowded and there are hell lots of competition. So it may be a little hard for you to find customers, but you can use it to your advantage as well. How? You may ask. Because since you have just started, you don’t have lots of overhead and you can be competitive as far as quality and commitment is concerned. Regarding pricing, it’s okay to charge reasonably.
Second alternative option that you have is to select tier II city in any state where there is less or no competition. It’s hard to find such city but still there are locations where there is lots of work but no service providers are available for example Dhanbad or Bokaro in Jharkhand. We receive so many requests from Jharkhand and there are hardly any reliable service providers who cover all of Jharkhand.
Also while selecting a city, give priority to the route, population, overall cost of living and manpower and feasibility of covering more and more locations. Knowing local language of the city is going to be a big plus, so keep that in mind as well.
Selecting a name for your business
As you have decided to start your own packers and movers venture and you have almost selected a city where you want to start your business, let me congratulate you first. And now it’s time to select a name for your business.
There is hardly any name available (joking). No matter what comes to your mind, you may find a packers and movers company with that name. But that’s not an excuse and my only suggestions for name would be to select a small and sweet name that is easy to pronounce.

Register your business and get trade license
As you have finalized your business name, you can go ahead and start formalities of registering your business. Obviously you have multiple choice here like you can start a proprietorship business, go for partnership, LLP or Private Limited.
Choice is always yours, but if you don’t have lots of capital then you can simply start a proprietorship business. It’s easy to form and does not require lots of investment.
You can always hire a consultant who could help you in getting trade license, service tax registration number, PAN card etc or you can do all of this of your own.
Book a domain and get a basic website in place
Next important task ahead of you is to have a website in place and to begin with you should book a domain name for your business. There are several free CMS tools available that you use to get your website done by yourself or you can find a professional to look after this. Having a website is kind of a must today because most of your customers will be searching for your services on the internet and you cannot ignore it.
Find customers to grow your business
Now you have basic in place and the next step is to advertise and promote your business to find initial customers. You can start spreading message in your circle about your company and ask your friends and family to refer anyone they know who is planning to relocate.
