Over the years, I gained lots of insights in moving and relocation services and I would like to share it all so you can benefit when you plan to move your home and office from one city to another.

Create a schedule as per your convenient and like when you will buy packing materials, when you will start packing, when and where will you hire trucks, what’s the final date of move etc

In your entire and moving relocation, the most critical part thing is to get all your stuff packed. Packing is really vital and requires lots of effort and time. Once packing is done, loading, transporting and unloading will be comparatively easier.

Start packing one room at a time. Ideally you should do it in phases, so that you don’t get tired

While you start packing your goods, you should start looking for moving trucks and find labors to help you load and unload goods. Even if you have done all the packing yourself, loading is not going to be easy. You have to hire labors to load all your packed goods to the moving truck.

You have to arrange labor at the destination to help you unload your goods and boxes from the moving truck. Trucking companies can help you find labors and ay be they can provide labors too.

Hiring packing and moving company will make your life easy, but that may cost you little more than if you do it yourself. But if you want to save that money, you have to make a perfect plan for everything for a great and smooth relocation.

For this post, Let me assume you want to do it all yourself and save some money, you have the alternate choice of hiring a moving company at anytime. Below I have listed some of the most important tips to help you in moving your home.

  1. Start planning the moment you know you will be moving
  2. Create a list of goods you want to take with you. Flag each and every item as per their importance like V=very Important, I=Important, NI=Not Important etc. Flagging in this manner will give you a clear picture f the items you will be packing and moving
  3. Create another list of items that you are sure you don’t want to pack and mover, you can donate or re-sell such old and used items
  4. Now as you know how much of items you have to shift, its time to buy the packing materials. Like cello tapes, boxes, cartoons, tapes, bubble wraps etc
  5. Start packing your rooms now. Pack one room at a time and do it regularly if you have time. Don’t keep it for the weekend. Be rest assured that actual packing will take longer than you have assumed. Label each box after packing and taping it
  6. Time to pack furniture and materials that are not in use at the moment. Like bed in the guest room, or furniture in your balcony
  7. Contact a trucking company and book a truck and labor to load materials into the truck. Trucking company may provide labor
  8. Buy Transit Insurance, to ensure your goods are safe and in case there is anything wrong, you will be able to file a claim.
  9. Get all your official correspondence addresses changed, specially for bank accounts, credit cards and any other subscriptions
  10. Finally, you are good to move now, make sure to leave the keys with the owner if it’s a rented home, and take the keys of your new home.

How to Pack Breakable Items while Moving your Home

Packing itself requires lots of attention and care, but when it comes to packing easily breakable items like glassware, cups, plates etc, you should pay more attention while packing them in the box while moving. These breakable items are very sensitive and costly, and I am sure you don’t want them to get damaged during the move while shifting your home. Let me share some easy to follow tips for you to help you pack and move all those valuable breakable items.

  • Get some bubble wrap, old newspaper, or breakable packing paper. Put it on the bottom of the cardboard box to create a soft layer.
  • Get some old newspaper and tear it to make smaller peaces. Fill these scrambled newspapers into the glass, bowls, cups etc.
  • Wrap one Item at a time well with bubble wrap or packing paper. If you don’t have bubble wrap or packing paper then you may use old newspapers instead.
  • Once you have finished packing each of the items, then start placing them in the box. Put it straight if possible and fill the gap with papers.
  • Now cover the box with some more paper and close it
  • Seal the box properly with tape.
  • Label each of the boxes to mention it has breakable items inside and to be handled carefully.
