We have written tons of posts on how to pack and move your home in the past on this relocation blog, but this post is to talk about packing your kitchen. Kitchen items requires extra precaution and special packing because most of the items of your kitchen are fragile in nature and it could get damaged quite easily even with a small little bit of collision.

This post is to give you a fair idea of how to plan, prepare and pack your kitchenware for safe and secured shifting. I am going to guide you step by step and help you get it right.

Packing kitchenware before movingSo are you ready to start?

#1 Organize

Being a foodie is not easy and I am sure there are so many items and accessories in your kitchen. Right from small boxes in which you have kept spices to pickle glassware, utensils, bowls, glass, mugs and other goods, you got to organize it all. Start organizing plates, bowls, utensils etc according to their nature and dimension so that it can be packed well. This is also a good time for you to let few items go from your kitchen that you don’t plan to move. Once you separate and organize it all, you may like to clean them before packing.

#2 Find Boxes and other packing Materials

In order to pack all your kitchen wares you ought to buy or find good quality card board box. Don’t rely on old used card board box because if it gets damaged after packing then it’s going to cost you more. So better buy it from a store. You may also get a few box from a neighborhood grocery store, but again just double check to ensure it can handle weight.  Using medium size box is better than larger ones because it can be handled easily. Apart from boxes, you should also buy good quality tape, cushion or use scrambled news papers for cushioning and packing.

#3 Start Packing

Box is in place and you have got other packing materials, so you can start packing now. Start packing extra stuff that you are not going to use anytime soon like extra plates, tea sets, cup, wine glass etc. While packing these items, especially glassware or other fragile items, make sure to do proper cushioning and warp these bowls, glass, plates etc in old newspaper or packing paper which is comparatively softer. When you place them in the box, make sure to place them in layers and once the first layer is done, put some paper for cushioning before placing second layer.

#4 Packing Fragile Kitchen Utensils

Fragile kitchenware should be packed very carefully. Do proper wrapping and cushioning before placing these items inside the box. Using a medium size box is suggested for such packing to ensure it’s not more than 20-30 kg after packing or else it’s going to be difficult to lift, load and unload it. Obviously kitchen utensils can be packed at the end of all because you still need to prepare food and east. So pack it once you are ready to move. Again get it all cleaned and dried before packing

#5 Taping and Labeling

I am sure you have purchased good quality tape and as you are done with packing, it’s time to tape all your boxes properly and label it. Proper labeling is yet to be done. Do it now. Properly label each of your box so that you can understand which box should be unpacked first or which item is packed in which box. Also mark arrow and label which side is to be kept up and mention fragile for fragile boxes for better handling.

Over to you

Every kitchen is very special and I am sure you don’t want to see anything broken while you move. No matter whether you are doing it all yourself or planning to hire packers and movers to help you with packing and shifting, just have a plan in place and do get it all packed well. That’s the only thing you can do get it all moved safely and in sound condition. I am sure you have enjoyed reading this post and now you know how to pack kitchen items for moving it safely.
